After our experiments with slaking of lime, we tried plaster mixes using lime, wood shavings and mud. Two plaster patches were applied side by side on an exposed brick wall in two coats. The patches took about 2 days to dry. We found the dry slaked lime performing better with respect to cracking and setting.

Just for fun, we made some lime+Indigo and lime+yellow and red oxide mixes as the last and fine coat over lime plaster. Obviously this last coat didn’t perform as well as expected, but the base coats have survived three cycles of all seasons without any additional cracks!
